Abstract

This article discusses the role of alcohol, particularly ethanol, in the context of medicine and health. Alcohol, which is an organic compound with the general formula R-OH, has various types, including ethanol, methanol, and isopropyl alcohol, each with different properties and uses. Ethanol is known as the main ingredient in alcoholic beverages and has health benefits when consumed in moderation, such as the potential reduction of heart disease risk. However, the risks associated with excessive alcohol consumption are much greater, including damage to vital organs and mental health issues. In the medical field, alcohol serves as an effective antiseptic and disinfectant and is used as a preservative and solvent in drug formulations. The use of alcohol in specific concentrations can help clean wounds and prevent infections. Despite having some benefits, the negative impacts of alcohol consumption must be taken seriously to protect individual and public health. This article concludes that alcohol plays more of a supporting role in drug manufacturing rather than being a primary component intended for treatment.
