Assessment of Soil Physical Quality Index Using PCA Under Different Land Uses in Tutur District, Pasuruan Regency
Abstract
Soil physical quality is an essential component that determines the soil’s ability to support land productivity. This study aims to assess the Soil Physical Quality Index (SPQI) across various land-use types in Tutur District, Pasuruan Regency. The research was conducted based on surveys, field observations, and laboratory analyses. The assessment employed a Principal Component Analysis (PCA) approach to determine the weights of soil functions and the most influential physical indicators. Soil sampling points were selected using the purposive sampling method. Indicators of soil physical quality include bulk density, porosity, effective depth, permeability, aggregate stability, soil moisture, and soil texture. The SPQI values obtained ranged from 0.23 to 0.79, categorized from poor to good. Pine forest showed the highest SPQI value (0.734), whereas upland dryland had the lowest value (0.327). The results of this study provide a scientific basis for more effective land management efforts to maintain and improve soil physical quality in Tutur District.
