Effectiveness of Stem Injected Systemic Insecticides on The Development of Elaeidobius kamerunicus Faust Larvae In Male Oil Palm Flowers
Abstract
The pollination process (pollination) in oil palm plants becomes a crucial element in the formation of oil palm fruit. This research aims to examine the effect of systemic insecticide application through stem injection on the development of pollinating insect larvae, Eladobius kamerunicus Faust, on oil palms. The research was conducted at the Adolina Plantation Unit of PT. Perkebunan Nusantara IV Regional II, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra, in January-February 2026. The research used a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with a factorial arrangement involving two factors: insecticide type (control, Asefat 97% WG, and Tentraniliprol 200SC) and application dose (20, 30, 40 ml per tree). Parameters included E.kamerunicus population per bunch and hectare, larval mortality, Growth Index (GI), and Relative Growth Rate (RGR). Data were analyzed with Excel, ANOVA, and Tukey's test at 5% significance using SPSS 22. The results showed that the E.kamerunicus population stayed above the minimum threshold of 20,000 individuals, thus not disrupting the ecosystem. The highest larval mortality was observed in the Asefat treatment at 40 ml per tree (24.4%), while Tentraniliprol at 18.5%. The type of insecticide type significantly affected GI values but not RGR values. The results indicated that Tetraniliprol caused lower larval mortality than Acephate, keeping pollinator populations above necessary levels for effective pollination. Therefore, Tetraniliprole can be recommended as a safer alternative for oil palm pest management programs where conserving pollinating insects is a priority.
