PENGUATAN PERAN ORANG TUA DALAM MENGEMBANGKAN SELF-CARE SKILLS ANAK DOWN SYNDROME
Abstract
Penyandang Down Syndrome sering mengalami hambatan dalam keterampilan perawatan diri (self-care skills) yang berdampak pada rendahnya tingkat kemandirian. Kondisi ini diperparah oleh terbatasnya pemahaman orang tua mengenai strategi pendampingan yang tepat. Kegiatan pengabdian yang dilakukan pada Maret 2026 ini bertujuan memperkuat peran orang tua dalam mengembangkan self-care skills penyandang Down Syndrome di Kecamatan Lembang, Kabupaten Pinrang. Sasaran kegiatan adalah delapan keluarga yang memiliki anggota keluarga penyandang Down Syndrome. Pengabdian dilaksanakan menggunakan pendekatan family-centered intervention melalui metode door to door yang meliputi edukasi, konsultasi, pelatihan, dan pendampingan individual. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pemahaman orang tua mengenai konsep self-care skills dari 37,5% menjadi 100%, pemahaman strategi melatih kemandirian dari 25% menjadi 87,5%, serta kemampuan menerapkan pembiasaan kemandirian di rumah dari 37,5% menjadi 87,5%. Selain itu, peserta menunjukkan perkembangan pada berbagai aspek keterampilan perawatan diri, seperti mandi, berpakaian, menjaga kebersihan diri, dan merapikan barang pribadi. Pendekatan door to door terbukti efektif karena memungkinkan pendampingan yang lebih personal sesuai kebutuhan masing-masing keluarga. Kegiatan ini memberikan manfaat nyata dalam meningkatkan kapasitas orang tua dan mendorong kemandirian penyandang Down Syndrome dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
