STRUKTUR POPULASI DAN PEFORMANS REPRODUKSI KERBAU RAWA DI KECAMATAN KUANTAN TENGAH

ABSTRACT
This study aims to determine the population structure and reproductive performance of swamp buffaloes in Kuantan Tengah District, Kuantan Singingi Regency. This research was conducted in Bandar Alai Kari Village, Sitorajo Kari, Seberang Taluk, Seberang Taluk Hilir, Aro Island on April 10 - May 10 2018. This study used census and direct observation, location selection and sampling techniques using purposive sampling and data. collected primary data and secondary data. The variables observed were profile of farmers, population structure and reproductive performance. The results of the research showed that the population structure of swamp buffaloes in Kuantan Tengah District was 716, consisting of 48 male calves or 6.71%, 62 female calves or 78.66% (male gudel ratio: female gudel 1: 1.25) and adult males as many as 95 head or 13.26% young females as many as 119 head or 16.62% (ratio of young males: young females by 1: 1.25) and adult males by 55 or 7.69% , and adult females as many as 337 tails or 47.06% (adult male: adult female ratio of 1: 6.12). Overall male buffaloes were 27.66% and female buffaloes were 72.34%. And reproductive performance which includes the first age of childbirth, at the age of 3.5 - 4.5 years, length of pregnancy with an average of 11.09 months, and the distance of calving 32.43 ± 11.36 months.
